The Practice Advisor Reports contains a section about Variance Calculations What important information does this portion of the report provide?
Variance Calculations in the Practice Advisor Reports
• For Variance calculations, the average for the MTD/YTD Benchmark range is calculated by adding the beginning number of the benchmark range to the ending number of the benchmark range (these numbers are typically amounts or percentages) and then dividing by two (for example, if the Benchmark range is 80 to 100, the result would be 90). If the result is not in the same format as what is expected for the Variance column, it is rounded up (for example, if the result is a fraction, such as 85.5, and a whole number needs to be used, the result would be 86).
• Some Variance calculations subtract the average for the MTD Benchmark range or YTD Benchmark range from the actual amount and some subtract it from the actual percent.
• There are a few cases (for example, the A/R KPIs for the Collections section) where the actual amount or actual percent is subtracted from the average for the MTD/YTD Benchmark range.
